The 2009 Sporting Chefs charity dinner at Coghlans, Sheepbridge last night saw some fierce competition in the kitchen. The 10 celebrity sports stars cooked a 5 course gala dinner for 170 guests, with each course being voted for by the guests. After a gruelling time in the kitchen the eventual winners were footballer Gary Speed and boxer Clinton Woods with a stunning Dark chocolate and apple confection with 911 points. With a close 907 points second place went to footballers Brian Deane and Simon Tracey, last years winners, with their main course of Beef fillet wrapped in tapenade on baked macaroni with a shin of beef confit.
In third place with 870 points for their starter of pear pickled walnuts, creamed gorgonzola and cured black forest ham were Olympic runners Jaime Baulch and Tasha Danvers. Cricketers Claire Woods and Chris Adams scored 855 points for their technically difficult seared king scallops on truffle risotto. Bringing up the rear, no surprises, were local legends David Hirst and John Beresford for their canapés… which David convinced John was actually “can of peas”.
Hirsty and Bez performed a great double act as auctioneers squeezing every last penny from the crowd with the highlight being the Number 1 of 1000 Steiff Pudsey Bear fetching an amazing £700Share and Enjoy:
