2009 Vintage report from France

france vintage wine

“The first word that jumps from all comments is ‘early’. Most of the Estates acknowledge the fact that they never finished the harvest that soon.

Clos Labade quote : “Harvest is usually associated with Fall. Shall we have to change that to Summer? We finished on September 23rd. Other common impression : ripeness and high sugar content.”

Most areas had rain in Spring and again in August, thus getting high alcoholic contents. “The problem, if any, was more to wait for the maturity of the tannins and not harvest too soon, just according to sugar content” (Frédéric Juvet, Château de Roquenégade)

One satisfaction shared by all : the very good clean state of the crop.”

Michel Maréchal
