2011 vintage report from Lutzville, South Africa

“We started harvest with cooler conditions than normal. This enabled us to ensure picking and receiving grapes until midday with grape temperatures below 19° C. Our production is smaller than expected. We have had no rot on our grapes and keep on receiving healthy fruit. In the middle of harvest we had a short heat wave but luckily it had no effect on our production. The early signs indicate that the Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc are showing well. We have more typical aromas on the varietals and more complex wines on the palate than usual. The reds have just been harvested and we will know the full potential in the next few weeks. Needless to say we are excited about the vintage!”
