Christmas Day with Mark Price

Having had a couple of your standard pints in my old local with my father, we returned to my parents house and had a nice crisp dry bottle of Konig Pils, to settle our way onto the Christmas wines, we drank a steely Chardonnay from the Highfield Estate, followed by the lighter body of a Fleurie La Chapelle des Bois.

After a rest from food and drink we finished the meal with the Gartelmann Ambrosia from the Hunter Valley, for me this stood up beautifully to the pudding, toasts of marmalade and apricots made it a sumptuous drink for me, but a bit too much for the rest of the family!

Christmas Wines

Another great Christmas was enjoyed this year. Traditional Turkey with all the trimmings was served Christmas Day along with the Kuhling Gillott's Scheurebe Kabinett... thankfully renamed from mouth-filling Bodenheimer Heitersbrunnchen Scheurebe Kabinett... making from an easier time around the table! The last remaining bottles from a case of 1998 Savigny les Beaunes 1er Cru, Burgundy, were enjoyed by all. The fruity bite from Pinot Noir offering a great balance with the meat.

Boxing Day saw an evening meal of Beef served with all the usual trimmings (including some very tasty sausages wrapped in bacon). The old faithful Highfield Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand provided the fruity tang along with Rutherford Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon from California - the red stood up very well against the beef and gravy and put all into a good party mood.

The bottle of Ramos Pinto Collector Port was kept out of the hoards way... to be enjoyed at a quieter moment with the remaining mine pies.
