Waterstone Bridge

Waterstone Bridge - Australia

You can hear the creek before you can see it when you walk down to Waterstone Bridge at the end of the vineyards. Surprisingly, when you get there it's just a trickle really. During the hottest summer days the sun beats down baking the ground and drying the creek into a dirt track. The, with a few careful steps you can cross it, no worries, without getting your boots wet. It's a great spot though to cool down in the evening under the trees.

Waterstone Bridge is a range of wines by Gapsted, Victoria, Australia

The early part of summer was warm, but there was plenty of rain in February to fill the soil profile. The later part of summer was warm to cool, creating delicate and intensely flavoured whites.

Fruit for the Waterstone Bridge Chardonnay was harvested at night, crushed and pressed into stainless steel fermenters. It was then cool fermented with champagne isolate yeast and had extended post fermentation lees contact.

Colour : light green similar to cut hay

Nose : aromas of stone fruit and melon

Palate : touches of melon and light peach with a full soft rounded palate and a clean, dry finish.

Gapsted Wine - The Story

The Victorian Alps winery was established in 1997 by six great friends who were also wine professionals. Their extensive experience in the industry and their passion for the region were central to the success of the winery over its relatively short existence. In 1999 the first wines were released under the Gapsted brand and in 2001 the stunning and award winning Cellar Door was opened.

The owners of Victorian Alps Winery are all passionate wine people with Shayne Cunningham, John Cavendon and Pat Murtagh providing the drive for the business.

They all had a dream to build their own winery and decided to become business partners. After many long nights of planning (and the occasional tipple), the dream of Victorian Alps Winery became a reality. Today the winery crushes 11,000 tons and has storage capacity of over 9 million litres.

Shayne Cunningham - Chief Winemaker

Shayne’s affinity for the King Valley and Alpine Valleys regions began when he sourced grapes from the area to produce an award-winning 1992 King Valley Cabernet Sauvignon for Miranda. In 1995 he took the next step of entering a viticultural partnership with three King Valley growers. In 1996 he left Miranda with a clear focus - to have a winery of his own in the King Valley region. Together with the three King Valley growers with whom Shayne had the viticultural partnership and an additional grape grower from Buffalo Valley, Shayne formed the Victorian Alps Winery.

Gapsted Cellar Door

Winner of Best Tourism Winery 2006
Winner of Great Wine Capital 2008

Nestled on the side of the Buckland Ranges, with views over the vineyard and the Ovens valley to the mountains in the distance, the cellar door is the perfect venue for a picnic and to watch a brilliant red sunset.

Live music and theatre, cinema under the stars and the occasional kangaroo make for a truly memorable experience.
