The House of Trimbach
The House of Trimbach was founded in 1626 and is based in the picturesque town of Ribeauvillé on the east facing slopes of the Vosges mountains.
The Trimbach family have been making superb wines for 12 generations. Today Pierre Trimbach is the award winning winemaker and his brother Jean and uncle Hubert run the sales, marketing and finances.
The Trimbach style is a classic expression of superb terroir - it is beautifully structured, bone dry, and the complex fruit is balanced with mineral qualities of the soil. Trimbach do not use oak as they feel it would compromise the structure of the wines.
Trimbach own 30 hectares of top vineyard sites and buy from over 120 growers from a total of 60 hectares some of which are Grand Cru sites. These are longstanding relationships, many going back 3 generations.
The jewel of the crown is Riesling Clos Ste Hune -one of the finest white wines of the world. It is made from a single 1.2 hectare vineyard in Hunawihr.
Two other noteworthy wines from named sites are: Riesling Cuvée Frédéric Emile: Made from two Grand Cru sites behind the winery in Ribeauvillé. Gewurtztraminer Cuvée des Seigneurs de Ribeaupierre: Made from vineyards which historically belonged to the lords of Ribeaupierre; Grand Cru Osterberg in Ribeauvillé and Lieu dit Muehlforst in Hunawihr. Both wines age superbly.
Alsace has the highest proportion of Michelin starred restaurants in France and Trimbachs dry powerful style is particularly well suited to an extensive range of foods. Trimbach wines are served in many of the worlds Michelin starred restaurants.
