Santa Damiana Dominican Cigars
The name Santa Damiana originates from Cuba where, before the 1959 revolution, it was a Havana brand owned by an American company. It was named after one of the most famous plantations in the Vuelta Abajo tobacco region. The plantation is still there, but the brand now belongs to Altadis USA and is made in the Dominican Republic.
Santa Damiana in its present blue and yellow livery was born in the mid 1990s. Its parents were the Consolidated Cigar Corporation (now Altadis USA) and Hunters & Frankau. H&F chose the name from the American company's list of unused brands, selected the range and designed the packaging while Consolidated concentrated on preparing a tobacco blend to suit the British taste.
The brand made its first appearance at the National Tobacconists' Exhibition in September 1995 as Santa Damiana EMS because the blend was specially targeted on the English Market.
