Peter and Terri Robson established the very successful Ross Hill vineyards in 1994. The vineyard is located at 62 Griffin Road, seven kilometres north west of the city of Orange, NSW, Australia. It is a 65 hectare property with 12 hectares of vines, 300 olive trees and an organic snail farm!

The Ross Hill vinyard is situated on gentle, north-facing slopes at an elevation of 800 metres. The grapes are hand-picked and the vines are hand pruned. No insecticides are used. Irrigation is efficiently reduced through a programme of mulching cover crops planted in Autumn and Winter. Ross Hill wines are made by David and Jane Lowe from the Lowe Family Wine Company in Mudgee, Australia.

Peter and Terri Robson hand pick the grapes and the vines are also pruned by hand. The wine was left on the lees in new and two year old French hogsheads producing a complex, new style food-friendly wine which displays vanilla and hazelnut aromas.

The Ross Hill Chardonnay is grown at 780 metres. Handpicking, whole bunch pressing, mixed fermentation in boht oak and stainless steel and some subtle lees contact combine to produce a complex, well balanced wine. Generous rounded fruit on the middle palate shows nutmeg hints from seamlessly integrated French oak with an elegant acid backbone from high altitude fruit.

With correct cellering this delightful wine will mature over 3 to 5 years.

The Ross Hill Cabernet Sauvignon is grown at 780 metres from low yiedling, high altitude vines and is fermented warm in small batches in open vats. The fruit is pumped over and turned by hand to emphasise gentle tannin extraction.

Some classic mint, cool climate aromatics over a solid cherry fruit nose. A well constructed middle palate with a short, dense finish, balanced by fine grained tannins. Will develop over the next 5 years.

This Ross Hill Shiraz blew the tasting team away with its white pepper and mint aromas. A wine to enjoy! The bouquet displays earthy aromatics of blackcurrant, spices and fine tobacco.

Grown at 760 metres. Deep cherry red in colour, the Shiraz is barrel fermented in French oak hogsheads. The aromatics are lifted and well balanced, displaying black cherry fruit, mixed peppers and hints of vanilla.

Integrated fine grain tannins follow a full length, medium weight palate which reflects the distinctive fruit pepper aromatics. This unique, cool climate wine can be enjoyed over the next 5 years.

The Ross Hill Merlot is grown at 760 metres. An outstanding cool climate wine from Ross Hill's low yielding, high altitude vines. Fermented warm in small batches in open vats, the fruit is pumped over and turned by hand to emphasise gentle tannin extraction.

A savoury dry red with black cherry, all spice scents and some vanillan oak. The palate is soft with a firm backbone of fine grained tannin and oak complexity. Will develop well over the next 4 years.
