Rosemount Winery

The development of individual vineyard wines such as the iconic Roxburgh since 1983, established the winery's reputation for producing top end Chardonnays that would match the very best in the world. Suddenly the wine world was watching every step.

Simultaneously, a programme throughout the 1980's and early 1990's established a series of vineyard interests across Australia, matching soil and climate to their ideal grape partners and enabling the family to develop their credentials over a diverse range of classic grape varieties and wine regions.

A finely-chiselled Cabernet Sauvignon which reflects its ultra-cool climate origins. Berry fruit flavours are intense with maturation in new and one year old French oak complementing the characteristic herbal notes on the extended finish. Cellaring potential is around 10 years.

The area surrounding the town of Orange in New South Wales is emerging as one of Australia's most exciting quality food and wine growing regions. Rosemount's Orange vineyard is located in the foothills of Mount Canobolas, at 875m - 900m above sea level, enjoying a highly individual ultra-cool climate environment in which to grow premium wine grapes. The cool, clear summer days ripen fruit to perfection whilst the low night-time temperatures lock in natural acids and stabilise colour and tannins in the red varieties.

Planted in 1989, the vineyard is located on an excellent mix of red volcanic and loess soils. It is vertically trellised to optimise sunlight exposure. This unique site yields lively, expressive fruit which shows its finely chiselled structure of crisp natural acidity in the resultant wines.
