Paxton Vineyards, McLaren Vale Australia

For 4 decades Paxton have nurtured our vineyards in McLaren Vale, South Australia. During this time our philosophy and reputation has been built on growing grapes of exceptional quality. Our mission now is to showcase quality, varietal expression and natural regional diversity within a range of wines that will indulge lovers of the finest drop. It’s been heads down, tails up for everyone at Paxton, for as long as we can remember, and while we have been working we’ve become one of McLaren Vale’s most respected wine producers.

Paxton Pinot Gris

Paxton Pinot Gris is increasing in popularity and we believe it’s a variety well suited to one of McLaren Vale’s coolest sites - Paxton’s Thomas Block. The Paxton Pinot Gris is a crisp and fresh style, whilst also capturing the interesting characters and essence of the variety. The 2008 vintage is the second release of this single vineyard wine and displays fruit freshness and structure highlighting the suitability of this site for the production of premium white varieties.

Paxton Pinot Gris is pale straw coloured with copper hues. The nose shows citrus and apple tones with a lifted spice fragrance. On the palate Paxton Pinot Gris develops citrus flavours leading to a full, attractive and crisp flavoursome finish.

Paxton Chardonnay

Paxton Chardonnay. Sourced from the Paxton’s ‘Thomas Block’, this is the third release of this single vineyard wine, displaying fruit freshness and structure highlighting the suitability of this site for the production of super premium Chardonnay.

The section selected for the Paxton Chardonnay is the ‘Low Trellis’ (25 years old), which is hand pruned and utilises foliage wires for canopy management. Low yields and minimal irrigation combined with one of the coolest McLaren Vale sites, good soil moisture reserves and aged, deep rooting vines results in fruit with exceptional concentration of flavour and natural acidity.

The bouquet shows lifted floral fragrance with citrus and stone fruit. The palate is complex, even and attractive with freshness and texture. Citrus and stonefruit with some creamy complexity, balanced by an attractive minerally structure with crisp flavorsome length. A great expression of the fruit from the vintage.

Paxton AAA Shiraz Grenache

Paxton AAA Shiraz Grenache is a vibrant blend of approximately 75% Shiraz and 25% Grenache from some special little pockets amongst our vineyards. The Shiraz was selected from the ‘Gateway' and ‘Jones Block’ vineyards, renowned for producing some of the best fruit in the region. These select parcels were blended with complimentary Grenache to create a wine that is engaging to a wide range of drinkers. Our blend is fun, appealing and, unlike some members of Paxton, not over the top.

Colour: Paxton AAA displays medium intensity ruby red with purple hues

Nosev: Lifted, bright, spicy red berry fruit with some floral notes.

Palate : Bright spicy berry fruit, flavour filled with a fine tannin profile and a lingering savoury back palate. Smooth, even and balanced.

Paxton Quandong Farm Shiraz

Quandong Farm Shiraz is a single vineyard wine that aims to highlight the intensity and brightness of fruit grown using biodynamic techniques. Our farming practices are designed to produce wines of intensity, but also with layers of texture, flavour and interest for the consumer. We think this wine exhibits these characteristics and provides both concentration and flavour and a certain delicacy, rather than simple raw power.

Colour : Deep plum

Nose : Lifted fragrance, some earthy fruit with underlying berry and truffles

Palate : Even, smooth earthy plum and berry fruit, a lot of texture from the fine tannins. The wine characters are those of a healthy vineyard

Paxton Jones Block Shiraz

This is McLaren Vale Shiraz at its finest. From the acclaimed 'Jones Block', this wine is well regarded for its generous, yet elegant style. A small parcel was selected from our century old vines for complex fruit flavours and seamless structure. Grapes are hand pruned; wine is aged in fine grained French and American oak. As always, no corners cut. A rich, savoury and spicy blend, this wine has a fleshy middle palate and great length. Enjoyed with food, a glass or three of Paxton is certain to spice up the evening.

Colour : Vibrant, Dark Crimson

Nose : Dark plum and mulberry. Hints of pepper.

Palate : A rich palate of plums, chocolate and layers of savoury spice complexity. A long, focused palate of balanced fruit and tannin.
