Mischa Farm (Welllington) has been in the Barns family for three generations, bought after World War 2 by Kelpie Barns and his wife, ballet dancer Yvonne Blake. They ran a mixed farming operation and in the late sixties Kelpie started to graft vines on a small scale. Around this time the bordering farm of Eventide was also purchased. Their son John further developed the business to what Mischa is today - one of the Cape’s leading ‘stokkies’ nurseries.

Grapes produced on the Mischa farm were delivered to one of the local co-ops but John always harboured a secret desire to make his own wine. However, the ambition had to lie dormant for many years as the pressures of running a successful nursery operation and extensive vineyards consumed the time. Meanwhile the third generation was gradually maturing in the shape of three sons: Andrew, Gareth and Shaun. Andrew joined the team with the ambition to make wine and made his first vintage in 1996. A new cellar was constructed for the 2000 vintage.

Forward peaches and cream nose with flinty hints a broad palate that is expressive long and fresh.

The peach and apricot perfume leaps out and has a freshness but also sweet depth. Flowery and fragrant on taste with a mass of peach and apricot flavours showing. Very ripe and full but there is acidity that gives length to the flavours.

Powerfull cassis and blackcurrant aromas. Densely structured, broad fruit palate with a long expressive finish.

Lots of fruit showing on the nose, a mix of cassis and ripe bilberry. Sweetness comes through on the palate, a ripe full chocolate character with hints of vanilla. Rich and rounded in the mouth with a long lingering black fruit finish.

The nose reveals blackcurrant fruit with hints of eucalyptus and mint underscored by juicy red fruits following through to the intense fruitiness on the palate. A rounded, smooth mouth feel, while the firm, well-balanced tannin structure promises long aging potential. To be enjoyed soon, but will reach full development in 5 years time. This wine is made from a selected vineyard block and was matured for 12 months in a selected tight grain French Oak barrel.

A stunning wine showing intense Shiraz smoke and pepper on the nose highlighted by beautiful hints of cherry and red currant underscored by a dense base of tar and leather. The pallet is densely fruited with excellent structure and length. Oaked for twelve months in selected tight grain French oak giving this wine excellent ageing potential.
