Meantime Brewery

Meantime was founded by visionary Master Brewer, Alastair Hook, who gathered around him like-minded friends, family and his parents' dog to form a brewing company to help him realise his vision to connect with the British drinking public in a way that no one else was doing. Alastair's mission was simple. To demonstrate the full flavour potential that beer has to offer, and to engage the drinking public with those flavours. Meantime exists for no other reason.

Sipping a Meantime Chocolate Beer is like drinking chocolate mousse, but a mousse made with rich, bitter chocolate. The ultimate chocoholic beer gives a warm, comforting feeling with a silky mouthfeel, for those moments when only chocolate will do.

A silky-smooth suppertime beer, created using dark malts and chocolate. Pronounced vanilla notes fuse the chocolate and malts together to give a rich, warming, flavour that also works well as a complement to fruity desserts, summer puddings and autumn berries.

Made with dark malts and Fairtrade coffee beans. Coffee bitterness is balanced by vanilla sweetness to create
a lingering espresso cum mochca experience that fills the mouth in a way that coffee alone rarely manages. Is it coffee with beer or beer with coffee? The roastiness of the Fairtrade Arabica Bourbon coffee beans sourced by our friends at Union Coffee Roasters from the Abuhuzamugambi Bukawa cooperative in Rwanda , and the roastiness of the dark barley malts cannot really be pulled apart.

Whilst we wouldn’t recommend having this at breakfast with your bacon and eggs, our Coffee Beer is made with real coffee and has a caffeine hit to match. The natural flavours of the beans selected and hand roasted by our friends at the Union Coffee Roasters go well with the roast barley in the beer to give a silky-smooth drink with distinct chocolate and vanilla notes.

Each serving of Meantime coffee beer is equal to one cup of coffee.

Meantime India Pale Ale Beer

Our India Pale Ale may best be described as hop wine. A light copper coloured beer it is stuffed full of Fuggle and Goldings hops by the bucketful, which throw out ginger notes and flavours of Seville orange marmalade.
A beer that will only get better and better with time it is one that can be laid down in the wine cellar where it will
more than hold its own. Usually associated with Burton on Trent, IPA was actually invented in Bow, East London at the end of the 18th Century.

Jam packed with English Fuggles and Goldings, the beer is brewed with as many hops as we can physically get into the copper. We then fill the lauter tun with hops for a further infusion and then we dry hop with the beer with even more hops using our own unique circulation process to ensure maximum contact between the hops and the body of the beer. All this gives us a final hopping rate of well over 2lbs of hops per barrel.

Meantime Pilsner

A gentle maltiness on the nose deceives as a massive hop flavour envelopes the tongue. Lots of Perle and Halletauer hops give the correct levels of bitterness, making this delicately hued pilsner true to the German style.

The hops in Meantime Pilsner enable it to stand up much better than most lagers to stronger flavours such as
mature cheeses, hams and smoked meats, or oily fish.

Meantime Raspberry Beer

Raspberry Wheat Beer has a vibrant red colour and a fine white head. The beer has a full raspberry fruit nose, a balance of sweet and sour fruit on the palate and a wildly refreshing zesty finish. The beer is brewed with malted barley and malted wheat, and is fermented with a rare warmth loving yeast. Secondary fermentation of sugars in the raspberries promote a shrill acidity on the palate giving the beer a refreshing tang that makes it an ideal cleansing digestif, and which has won it a dedicated fan base.

Raspberry Beer is good with chocolate based sweets, fresh fruits, soft cheeses or with spiced curries; whilst the fruit means this beer actually gets better with age.

Meantime Wheat Beer

A cloudy, goldenorange beer with a moderately dense white head displaying a mixed combination of banana,
bubblegum, toffee, spicy and zesty aromas and flavours, all created, in true Bavarian stye, by the use of a special yeast strain that brings out the true character of the wheat malt used in the brew.

Care and attention to detail make this beer a cut above. The haze comes from it being unfiltered and still having plenty of yeast in suspension, as is traditional, and is not from protein like in some mass produced ‘wheat beers’; whilst the combination of wheat, barley and yeast give it a spicy aroma and refreshing taste we’re proud of.
