Leuwenkop is an institution of the South African wine scene for many years. The grapes come from the Breeda River Valley and Rawsonville in Western Cape, South Africa.

Cooling breezes blow in from the sea during the day, fog and moisture-laden breezes are prevalent at night. The climate is warm and the average yearly rainfall is 220mm.

Medium-textured, very fertile alluvial soils are found on the lower river terraces, while reddish-brown, medium-textured, calcareous duripan Karoo soils are found on the higher reaches. Now crafted in the modern style of a fruit driven character with distinctive on-shelf presentation.

Light to medium straw colour with a green tint.

Fresh tropical fruit flavours of passionfruit, melon and pineapples are dominant with background hints of fresh citrus adding to this complex, inviting nose.

Ripe fruit flavours present a generous rich palate, well balanced by a crisp acidty.

A rich gold green colour, this wine provides a multi-layered complexity both on the nose and palate.

The nose combines the perfumed citrus characters that were a result of the cooler ripening period with ripe tropical fruit and integrated vanilla oak.

The palate is soft, rich, and full showing structure and a lingering acid finish.

Pinotage, itself, is a cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsault.
