Gartelmann Wines - Hunter Valley

Gartelmann Wines specialises in the classic Hunter Valley varieties of Semillon (4 hectares) and Shiraz (5.6 hectares), and also produces excellent wines from the well known varieties of Chardonnay (3.6 hectares), Merlot (0.8 hectares) and Verdelho (1.6 hectares)

Gartelmann white wines are made from premium free run juice only. The flagship Semillon Benjamin named in honour of Jan’s father is made in the traditional Hunter Valley unoaked style. The Gartelmann Chardonnay is produced from low yielding vines and produces high quality fruit each year it is barrel fermented and matured in French Oak.

Shiraz is the oldest Hunter red wine variety, and is the flagship red wine for the region. We make two distinctly different styles of Shiraz - Gartelmann Diedrich Shiraz is made in the classic Hunter style, with maturation in French and American Oak.

Gartelmann Chardonnay

Grown on the 35-year-old Gartelmann vineyard, which was converted to a high trellis system for maximum ripeness and flavour and hand picked to minimize juicing and prevent oxidation.

Complexity has been built into the wine by using new and one-year old French and American oak and fermented at 12-16 degrees. Maturation for 8 months with lees stirring every 2 weeks for 3 months.

Colour : Vibrant Straw Green.

Aroma : Peach and nectarine with buttery flavours and spicy oak.

Palette : A full-bodied style with ripe flavours of white peach and honeydew melon together with sweet spicey oak.

Gartelmann Benjamin Semillon

The wine was fermented in stainless steel at cool temperature, and bottled early to retain freshness of primary fruit.

Colour : Pale Green.

Aroma : Classic Semillon nose of lemongrass cirus blossoms with some passionfruit.

Palatte : A crisp and lively palate showing lemon and lime flavours, balanced by mineral acidity providing great length.

Serve with poultry, seafood and lamb. Great with spicy dishes.

Gartelmann Late Harvest Ambrosia

Grown on the 30-year-old Gartelmann vineyard, which was converted to a high trellis system for maximum ripeness.

The wine was fermented in stainless steel at cool temperature, and bottled early to retain freshness.

Colour : Golden Yellow

Palatte : A rich, sumptuous, well balanced sweet wine with concentrated flavours of apricots, marmalade, toast, nuts and creme brulee. The luscious palate will develop with time to orange zest, toffee and spice.

Enjoy with strong cheese or dessert.

Gartelmann Wilhelm Shiraz

The wine was fermented for 6 days on the skins followed by 13 months maturation in a mixture of new and old French and American oak.

Colour : Deep Maroon.

Aroma : Plum, mulberry and blackberry fruits with pepper and spicy oak.

Palatte : Rich plum and mulberry fruits wrapped in velvety tannins with a long finish.

Serve with beef, tuna steaks and lamb dishes

Gartelmann Diedrich Shiraz

Grown on the 33-year-old Gartelmann vineyard, which was converted to a high trellis system for maximum ripeness and flavour and hand picked to minimize juicing and prevent oxidation. The Diedrich Shiraz is grown on a section of the vineyard with deep volcanic clay soil over a limestone base.

The wine was fermented on skins at 18 –22 degress for seven days and pumped over 6 times each day, after pressing the wine was racked to new and old French and American Oak barrels.

Colour : Deep ruby red.

Aroma : Ripe berry fruits and maraschino cherries with licorice and pepper spice.

Palette : A rich full flavored shiraz showing sweet berry fruit balanced by spicy oak and full tannins.

Sediment : This traditional style wine can throw a heavy sediment and may benefit from decanting prior to serving
