For four centuries, great care has been taken to maintain the reputation of the brand "Champagne Gosset", and to preserve a family know-how in making champagne.

In 1584 Pierre Gosset, alderman of Aÿ and wine-grower, made still, mostlyred, wines from the grapes he harvested from his own vines. In those days, two wines vied for pride of place at the table of the Kings of France : the wine of Aÿ and, from some hundreds of leagues further South, the wine of Beaune. Both were made from the same grape varieties Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The reputation of the wine of Aÿ was such that François the First had his own winery built there, which is now owned by Champagne Gosset. Then, in the 18th century the wine made in and around Aÿ began to bubble, and the Gosset family turned naturally to the production of champagne.

Gosset Brut Excellence is a blend of Chardonnay (42 %), Pinot Noir Premier and Grands Crus (45%) and Pinot Meunier (13%) including 24% of reserve wines. Reserve wines (average 2 years) ensure regular quality whilst preserving fruitiness, flexibility and balance.

A vintage with a surprisingly rich aroma, beautifully complex and really elegant, combining freshness and gourmandise, marvellous for an aperitif with friends, just as with an end of morning or afternoon cocktail.

Champagne Gosset Grande Réserve is a faithful expression of the Gosset style.

A blend of Chardonnay (46 %), Pinot Noir (39%) and Pinot Meunier (15%) including 12% of reserve wines. Reserve wines (average 2 years) ensure regular quality whilst preserving fruitiness, flexibility and balance. A Champagne with an enormous, mischievous and very harmonious personality.

Gosset Grande Reserve tasting notes:

Colour : Light golden yellow, light bubbles.

Nose : Intense and complex. Aromatic notes mixed with flowers (daffodil, linden flower) and fruits (cherry, blackberry, drying raisins) on a backdrop of roasted scents.

Flavor : Ample, vinous and concentrated. First aromas of dried fig and stuffed cherries and then very quickly aromas of grilled almonds and biscuit. Long and powerful flavour.

Colour : A rose salmon colour, intense, brilliant and clear.

Nose : Small red fruits (red current, raspberry, cherry), characteristic of Pinot Noir.

Flavor : Clear and vinous. Development of red fruit aromas (blackcurrant) on a spice backdrop (cinnamon). A fresh, lively and delicate flavour. Ideal balance between Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

1998 Gosset Cuvee Celebris

On pouring, Gosset CELEBRIS 1998 is a bright golden colour, shot with green tints and shimmering flashes of amber. There is lots of fine, vivacious sparkle, comprising a myriad of tiny, lively diaphanous bubbles which are subtle and discreet, but continuous.

On the nose, initially there are magnificent concentrations of floral and fruity scents and after swirling a more orderly duet of fragrances appears, reminiscent of home baking smells and the trace of lemon balm and lemon verbena. The final impression is cakey with notes of mocha and a spicy hint of vanilla.

On tasting, it is full, yet delicate and elegant with obvious complexity. There are hints of grapefruit and lemon zest at first, and then juice, moving to richer pineapple and peaches and rounded off by an unusual touch of candied angelica.

1998 was an excellent year for creating a top class Rosé Champagne.
The Chardonnays exhibit exemplary fineness. The red wines, having low acidity and a long-lasting taste.

The colour is brillant, inviting, with salmon-coloured reflexions and ultra-fine bubbles. The bouquet is intense and balanced with notes of freshly picked summer fruits, like raspberries and black currants.

The attack is full, ample, clean and fresh.The aromas initially scented by the nose gain in intensity, with an added dimension of cranberries and wild strawberries scents. The general impression is one of smoothness, fullness and vivaciousness. The final notes linger, due to the Chardonnay’s fineness, providing a long after-taste.

Serve as an aperitif, on fish, shellfish and crustaceans or on foie gras.

The launch of Gosset CELEBRIS 1998 has just been announced - the fourth vintage of our prestige cuvée in a decade. And, like the previous three vintages (1988, 1990 and 1995), this exclusively grands crus champagne is destined to be received by enthusiasts the world over as a superb example of the skill of the oldest wine house in Champagne: Aÿ 1584.

Eight grands crus were selected for this outstanding blend: 64 per cent Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs (Avize, Cramant, Le Mesnil Sur Oger and Chouilly) and 36 per cent Pinot Noir from the Montagne de Reims and the Grande Vallée de la Marne (Ambonnay, Aÿ, Bouzy and Verzenay). The result is an excellent example of an homage which was initiated 10 years ago and which is a tribute to the history of our champagne house, which has maintained its tradition for over four hundred years.

Our cellar master Jean-Pierre Mareigner, who has been at Champagne Gosset for the last 25 years, has created a dazzlingly rich and masterly expression of his blending skills. This Cuvée is an unforgettable wine, showing astounding aroma and flavour. It is wonderfully rich and pure, extraordinarily concentrated, beautifully fresh and incredibly seductive.

Champagne Gosset CELEBRIS 1998 can be enjoyed on its own, as an aperitif, or throughout the meal.
The richness of this wine will make a superb accompaniment to all manner of dishes, from fruits de mer and foie gras to Mediterranean or spicy Thai food.
