Cable Vineyards and Climate
The climate on Waiheke Island is moderate with gentle breezes drawn up from the waterways and valleys to replace the rising warm air. Cable Bay have six vineyards on Waiheke Island located at the western end of the island. Taking an environmentally considerate approach to vineyard establishment, the vine row orientation matches the natural contours of each location. Plantings are higher density than conventional vineyards, with trellis design that optimises fruit quality. Marlborough is New Zealand's sunniest region, with much of the area sheltered by high country to the west, south and in some areas to the east. The climate is warm, dry and settled in the summer and although winter days often start with a frost, it's usually mild overall. Cable Bay source grapes from vineyards located in the Brancott, Omaka and Raupara areas, and this diversity of sites enables them to blend to consistent styles every vintage.
