Bodegas Alejos

Bodegas Alejos - Rioja

Bodegas Alejos - Rioja

Ref: Alejos

Bodegas Alejos was founded in 1988 by the Ruiz-Alejos Ruiz family, dedicated to viticulture and the elaboration of wines. In the heart of La Rioja, between Tudelilla and Arnedo, there is a privilidged area famous for the quality of it's wines. It is here where you will find the vineyards of Bodegas Alejos. One part of these vineyards belonged to Nicolas Morales, from Arnedo. He entered his wine in the 1888 Barcelona Universal Exposition, winning a Bronze Medal and receiving a diploma.

Initially the cellar was in Tudelilla and due to expansion neccessities and the provision of modern tenchical advances since 1991 it is found in Agoncillo., maintaining the production of quality wines as its main objective.

Bodegas Alejos is a modern, dynamic winery. The actual installations consist of three annexed buildings with a total capacity of 1 million litres.

The first is used for the production and storage of wines in stainless steel, the central air-conditoined building is used for the ageing of the wines (first in American and then French oak) with a capacity of about 2500 barrels. The last building is used for bottling and contains its own laboratory for quality control.
Alabanza Crianza Tinto

Alabanza Crianza Tinto

Ref: 70001

Price: £9.35

The grapes are selected from the most favourable plots and the stems removed in the cellar. They are fermented in stainless steel tanks with controlled temperatures and continually agitated. The long maceration period extracts the maximum colour and the highest levels of polyphenoles.

The deposits are free run and the wine then goes through spontaneous malolactic fermentation and then decanted from the sediment.

The wine is placed into American and French oak for a minimum of 12 months. The bottles are then stored in a humidity and temperature controlled cage and released after its 3rd birthday. This allows the wine to keep its balance of primary elements (grape characteristics, toasted hues, sweet tannins from the fruits and acidity) and tertiary elements (oak wood characteristics and dark toasted hues from the lightly roasted staves)

Spiced nose with vanilla and tobacco complexity. Balanced on the palate with long, spicy finish. Temperanillo and Mazuelo (5%)

Alabanza Reserva Tinto

Alabanza Reserva Tinto

Ref: 70002

Price: £12.89

The stalks are fully removed before crushing. Agitation occurs during fermentation and is macerated for 20 days in stainless steel tanks - the creates a higher colour extraction and a more complex and tannic wine suitable for longer ageing.

After fermentation it is decanted into American and French oak barrels with a capacity of 225 litres, in which it wil stay for a minimum of 12 months. It is then bottled to continue its ageing process for at least 24 months in the cellar building equiped for this purpose with controlled humidity and temperature.

This creates a wine with darker colours and complex aromas and flavours compared to those from a young cask.

The Alabanza Reserva Tinto is brick-red in colour with a nose of red fruit and vanilla with mineral highlights. In the mouth it is soft with a velvety palate with good persistance and long, pleasant aftertaste.
