Winegrowers for six generations, the GERMAIN family has found its true raison d'être in the cultivations of vines and the fermentation, ageing and marketing of wines.

In the late 19th century, Vincent SAINCRIT, maternal great-grandfather of Bernard GERMAIN, consolidatd the foundations of the family. He handed down the memory of a man who was passionate, demanding and a perfectionist. From his original trade as a miller, this very great winegrower retained his love of the land, the terroirs and their characteristics. He cultivated vines with energy and passion, never hestitating to espouse new ideas an behalf of a wine of quality. He instilled deeply the GERMAIN family a spirit and know-how that was respectful of traditions.

A yellow coulour with brillant hints. The perception of the intensity is powerful striking. The bouquet is dominated by Fleurs Blanches. There is a fine gustatory balance around and silky attack. There is no perception at all of acidity. The aromatic complexity is expressed by exotic fruits. There is a long after- taste.

Traditionnaly accompanies white meat, fish and shellfish. Try it with lightly spiced dishes (safron or curry), oriental dishes or with a wok.

The botrytised Chenin grapes are picked by hand. The whole process is adapted to the character of the grapes in order to enhance as much as possible the bouquet and taste : careful harvesting, delicate crushing, the fermentation is controlled by coldness. A thorough ageing takes place in 400 litres casks during 12 months.

A gold-yellow colour, very intense. The bouquet gradually reveals its measure, with at first flowery blossom and vagetal aromas, then, after aeration, white fruits (peaches, pears, quinces and grapefruit) appear to settle and last. A slight hint of woody vanilla, in the end, reinforces its fine great sweet wine. Richness, smoothness and persistence, together create a very typical wine.

Serve between 10-12°C. Decanted if possible in order to obtain the best of its potential. It accompanies marvellously Foies gras, fillets of duck, hot fruit tarts and creams. It can be laid for decades.

The grapes for this wine are grown on the right bank of the Layon region at the heart of the wine producing area of Coteaux du Coteaux du Layon with a South-South West exposure.

The hand-picked grapes are carefully sorted, then destemmed and placed in stainless steel vats at 30-33°C. The must is frequently pumped over. Maceration last 8 to 15 days. The wines are left to mature on their lees for 3 or 4 months then kept in bottle for 6 months before sale.

Magnificient deep red colour with an enticing bouquet of fruits of the forest. The wine is a fine expression of mature cabernet, round, supple and elegant. A pleasure to drink with a long-tasting flavour.
