Bodegas Consejo de la Alta
Ref: alt-rio
Consejo de la Alta saw the light in 1990 at the initiative of a group of friends, all professionals from different walks of life, who shared a love for the world of wine. This alliance, thanks to its human balance and the ideal distribution of functions among those of us who work at the bodega, has made it possible for what was once a dream to become a consolidated project.
The choice of Cenicero as the location for our bodega did not come by chance. The town is situated in the foothills of the Sierra de Moncalvillo, at the heart of Rioja Alta, where the Najerilla and Ebro rivers meet. Its unique soils and microclimate make it a privileged area for growing quality grapes.
Our main asset are the 140 hectares of vineyards available to us, planted with vines carefully selected over the years. Many of these have attained a considerable degree of maturity (some are over 70 years old). Practically all the fruit harvested is Tempranillo, with small amounts of Graciano and Mazuelo from a few vineyards.
At Consejo de la Alta we are staunch defenders of native grape varieties and most particularly of Tempranillo, for the very good reason that its suitability to the land, its quality and its uniqueness allow us to be different in a world that is becoming increasingly uniform.
